What some of our 'newbies' are saying ...
I always thought golf looked like a pretty silly game to play, and something that I could never see myself either playing or enjoying.
But after we moved to a house along one of the Tura Beach Golf Course fairways, my partner Davina was invited by a neighbour into giving golf a try on a Newbies day. She came home from that full of enthusiasm and told me she had booked me in to have a try for myself on the next Monday. At first I said no, but after running out of excuses as to why I couldn't go, I had to relent and at least have one try at it. I arrived at the next Newbies day with Davina, and was introduced to Shirley Dobson and Lorraine Arnaudon, who took us down to the practice range with a group of several other newbies for some driving practice. Having never attempted to hit a golf ball prior to this, at first it was pretty frustrating. But with advice and encouragement from Shirley and Lorraine, by the end of the session I was at least able to hit a ball some distance with a driver. I came away from there feeling that maybe this was not such a silly game, and was actually looking forward to return to the Newbies for further sessions. On returning to the following Monday session, Shirley introduced me to Henry Schubert who was to take the newbie males out each Monday, while Davina would remain with Shirley and the newbie ladies. Henry was a great person to learn the game with. We both signed up to try the Give Golf a Go Membership, and since then, Davina and I have religiously attended the Newbies Monday sessions, as well as the free monthly Clinics being coached by Lisa Newling. Eventually we have started to get somewhere because of these sessions, and can now play a somewhat reasonable game of golf. The people involved in running this Newbies Program, right from the beginning, made both Davina and myself feel extremely welcome, and through this program we have become good friends with them, as well as many other newbies and club members along the way. We both now feel that we are very much a part of the club, and always look forward to our Newbie golf sessions and Clinics. The great outcome from this program is that now Davina and myself have this fun and relaxing game that we can play and enjoy together, or with other members whenever we want. We would both like to say a very big thankyou to TBCC for the opportunity to try the Give Golf a Go Membership, and those people involved in making the Newbies Program possible by giving up so much of their time. Particularly Shirley Dobson, Lisa Newling, Lorraine Arnaudon, Henry Schubert, Myriam Van Hock and Anne Madigan. You have always been very friendly, humorous, extremely patient and given lots of good advice on play, as well as the rules of the game. I guess you could say that because of all of you, we are now hooked on it! Terry Grant-Drew & Davina Pickering | 7 August 2018 Click here to read more Testimonials |
The Beginners Program at TBCC not only taught me how to play golf, but showed me how much fun it can be!
The Program provided a great mix of instruction, practice, support and encouragement. Tuition clinics were provided by Lisa Newling, a nationally recognised PGA professional coach. Lisa is approachable, friendly and had an immediate rapport with all the beginners, regardless of their skill level. On-course practice was supported by a wonderful group of experienced golfers who willingly gave their time to help and encourage the beginner golfers. The patience (and good humour) of these ladies was limitless and their advice was invaluable. Support and encouragement was provided by everyone involved in the Program, including my fellow beginners, as well as the Lady golfing community as a whole. Everyone was supportive of our progress, with numerous offers from the more experienced players to mentor us when we joined competitions. I cannot recommend the Program highly enough. The group was relaxed and friendly, with everyone able to progress at their own pace. Lasting friendships have been formed within the group and we continue to play, and socialise, together. For anyone considering taking up golf, TBCC Beginners Program is the place to start! Belinda | 4 June 2018 |
