TestimonialsI started golf for the first time in my life in January/February 2016. I was encouraged by my daughter who was employed by a sponsor of the Golf Club, as she was so impressed by the friendliness and caring nature of all the ladies, and assured me ‘they would look after me as a learner golfer’. She also introduced me to a few ladies at the club.
I decided to have several lessons with Lisa Newling, a professional golfer from the Pro Shop, to get the feel of golf and an understanding of the game. Lisa was absolutely fabulous! Her expertise, and calm manner made me feel very comfortable during lessons. I received a phone call from Shirley Dobson, the co-ordinator of the ‘Newbies’ golf group program. She encouraged me to come and join the group to get to experience a 9 hole game. There were about eight or so ladies, and we were all about the same skills level, so again it was very comfortable knowing we were all very new. We were taken around in groups of 3 or 4 with an experienced volunteer, such as Shirley, Annie, Lorraine and a few others. These ladies gave us their time and experience for free one day per week, because they love the game of golf and are very dedicated members of the Golf Club. The Tura Beach Country Club members have been so welcoming and encouraging, and it has been very rewarding socially, and I really feel like I belong there. I love playing golf regularly with my fellow ‘newbies’, mostly now on our own, and more recently joining in the competitions. Everyone has encouraged me to join in the competitions, and asked if I am enjoying myself. I have a lovely group of great friends that I can meet with and have meals and drinks together at the Club. Thank you Newbies’ Coaches for all your dedication and friendships, for which I am truly grateful. Lynette Haar | 10 June 2018 When I retired from full time work I was approached by a friend to go and play golf at the Tura Beach Golf Club on a trial package deal that was being offered. I hesitated at first, then decided to give it a go and it has honestly been the best thing I did. I got hooked on the game straight away. The ladies were just so encouraging and helpful which really made all the difference as there were times that I felt I was pretty useless at the game and would probably not improve. Anyhow, with their support, I continued on. I was so impressed with their commitment to their club and game with giving up so much of their own time to take us “newbies” around 9 holes teaching us the rules, giving us advice, support, and their constant encouragement. I have to say that really did make all the difference so I never felt like I were floundering at any time. I will always be very grateful to them for that help. The club put on free clinics with coaching from Lisa Newling who is excellent and I found this to be very beneficial. I found I could only take in a certain amount of instruction at a time, then I would progress with that, then I was ready for more and able to comprehend it better. Working in groups also meant you could piggy back on what others were being taught too. At no time did I feel stuck as there was always somebody to assist and support you at all times. I had a couple of private lessons with Lisa Newling which I found to be extremely helpful. Her skills for coaching were excellent as she explains in detail what is happening with your body throughout the swing which I found very helpful. As I improved, I was encouraged to join in the women’s weekly competitions but was very hesitant regarding my standard of play at the time. I finally decided to take the plunge and again, the ladies are just so helpful and encouraging that I am thoroughly hooked and am giving it all my best shot and loving it. I have made a whole new circle of friends whose company I really enjoy, especially when we socialise in the club house at the end of play, and I am so grateful to my friend who invited me in the first place. I would certainly recommend to anybody to give it a go! Lesley Merry | 18 April 2018 |
